These are uncertain times, here in 2022. In this atmosphere there are some things into which you don’t want to put a lot of effort or money. One such poor investment would be the music entertainment industry.
So, of course, three guys in Eugene start a band and call it The Mighty Mangos. They have been entertaining at parties with a mix of rock and country favorites and Jimmy Buffett tunes. It’s a new ensemble composed of veteran players:
Scott Smith – drums and vocals. Worked with groups on the east coast and Texas before coming to Lane County, where he has spent time with Rockitt, Johnny Law, and Coupe de Ville, among others.
Gary Marullo – bass and vocals. Lifelong multi-instrumental musician and songwriter. Was in the first band to play Autzen Stadium, American Frog; played in bands up and down the west coast. Lately was longtime drummer in the Valley Boys, lead guitar with Coupe de Ville.
John Powell – keyboard, guitar and vocals. Longtime local entertainer, started with the legendary Wheatfield, played country with the Ron Lloyd band, and lately in the Valley Boys and the Cheeseburgers, a band based on Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer band.
The Mighty Mangos have entertained at several “parrothead” functions, but have combined that style with a list of danceable standards. They now play a mix of rock, country and variety standards from a number of sources to create an upbeat show-something for everyone to enjoy. They aim to entertain and keep the crowd moving, creating a memorable evening and a successful function:
